The area
There is plenty to keep you busy if you want. Launch your own kayaks from the riverbank or rent canoes and kayaks in Snow Hill at the Pocomoke River Canoe Company. Catch a fish from the dock! Or book a cruise with Pocomoke River Cruises down the Pocomoke. Bike or hike, miles of the surrounding area are owned by the Nature Conservancy and Maryland State Parks.
You can stay and relax or for a short drive you can enjoy the attractions in the many nearby resort areas. Heading north from the Cottage, Ocean City, Maryland offers a 3 mile boardwalk featuring shops, amusement park rides, and bike rentals right on the beach. For something more quiet, Assateague Island National Seashore and its wild, undeveloped beach is only 28 miles away. Just south of the Cottage, Chincoteague Virginia is a small town gem with its access to beaches, shops, and wild ponies. The farm has been in Regina’s family since 1948 when her grandfather purchased and farmed the land. This area was historically called Red Landing and an old ramp and concrete kiln that might have provided pitch to repair the bottom of boats trafficking the river remain on the property as evidence of a bygone era when steamboats regularly traveled the river .
